Embracing Nature in Work

Workplace well-being has never been so high on the agenda due to the changing times of Covid19 and the impact of the long term health and well-being of employees as we progress into a different ‘new normal’ in life in general and especially in the workplace and working from home environments.

The 5 day event featuring comprehensive 75 minute sessions exploring a variety of topics predominantly dedicated to workplace design with reference to utilising technology and diversity as well as the impact of Covid19. Each session will be hosted by design commentator Adrian Walker and will follow the same format split into 3 sections: a keynote, a practical case study and a Q & A session.

Day one, titled the ‘Well Workplace’ will open with a talk from Rogers and Heatherwick Architecture practice about their current completed project for Cancer treatment centre: Maggie's Centres. The project used the built environment to influence the psychology of its inhabitants, by the installation of nature within the environment to evoke a peaceful and wellness interior design to promote wellness and recovery within an environment devoted to treatment. Maggie's chief executive Laura Lee will explain the organisation's architectural philosophy and the success of the collaboration with Rogers and Heatherwick.

It's the first health building completed by Heatherwick Studio, the British practice founded by designer Thomas Heatherwick.

"Our aim was to build a home for people affected by cancer that would be soulful and welcoming, unlike other typical clinical environments," By only using natural, sustainable materials and immersing the building in thousands of plants, there was a chance for us to make an extraordinary environment capable of inspiring visitors with hope and perseverance during their difficult health journeys." said Thomas Heatherwick.
